4th of July

Wow, gotta love living in small town Oklahoma. I got some excellent photos of the fireworks but the display only lasted 12 minutes and it is never organized really well. But hey at least they had the fireworks. With the fact that we have had very little rain I am surprised that we even had fireworks. Of course we had a county wide ban on having personal fireworks. If you were caught shooting off fireworks it was a $2000 fine ( I have also heard $5000 but shoot it is all expensive). I don't know about you but I don't think it is worth it to shoot off fireworks at that steep a fine.

There was a lot of really fun things going on around Guymon, OK yesterday. They had Freedom Fest where they have a salute to the troops, bullriding, a country band, and a dance. It seemed that a lot of people went out of town for the holiday though due to not being able to have fireworks. I can understand the sentiment.

Me I went with the traditional route, hung out with my kids, barbequed, watch some movies and cleaned up the yard until time to go to the fireworks. Kinda boring but at least it was spending some time with my children. I don't get to see them enough due to working all the time. So I take every minute I can get.

Introduction

For the people that don’t know me my name is Dawn Williamson. I live in the middle of nowhere in the panhandle of Oklahoma. They called it No Man’s Land for a reason . Kansas didn’t want it. Colorado didn’t want it. New Mexico didn’t want it. Texas didn’t want it. Oklahoma didn’t want it. Eventually Oklahoma was made to take it. Needless to say there is nothing here. About the only thing it has going for it is that it is practically in the middle of the nation.

I am a photographer so naturally I love to travel to take pictures since there isn’t much here. I was born with the love of travel though. Maybe it has some to do with the way I was raised.
I was born in San Bernardino, California. We moved from there when I was 8. At that point we moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Moving from rural living in California to Salt Lake City was a major culture shock let me tell you. Of course, that was nothing compared to the culture shock I got when I was 12. We moved from Salt Lake City to a rural area of Alaska.

Granted I learned a lot but wow! We lived in an area that didn’t have running water or electricity. That was a major shock to the system.

Anyway, I moved from Alaska when I was 19. I moved to Enid, Oklahoma to live with my brother. Of course, after a couple months my Mom decided she wated to move down also so I headed back to Alaska to help her move.

We spent the next couple months packing and meeting people over the internet. She ended up meeting her current husband over the internet. They have been married 9 years now.
To fast forward quite a bit, two kids later we are still living in the same area after 10 years. We have found that even thought there isn’t much here there is still plenty of places to go.
I have learned to develop my photography and writing so now here I am. I have my own travel website through YTB one of the fastest growing online travel providers. Click here to visit my site and start planning your vacations. Any of the photography you see of this site is for sale. I will be adding a web gallery of my photography eventually.

As I find places I want to go to or I decide to go to I will be adding articles. A lot of my articles will focus on my surrounding area but as I go to other places I will be adding more. Be sure to check back often.
